EvergreenHealth's "Fashion For A Cause" raises $36,000 for uncompensated breast health care
KIRKLAND, Wash., Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The EvergreenHealth Foundation last night raised $36,000 to help increase access to mammographic screenings at its first fashion show event held in partnership with Neiman Marcus. More than 100 guests attended the fall fashion preview event at the Bellevue Neiman Marcus, including Eastside community members, business leaders and EvergreenHealth providers, staff and volunteers.
The money raised at the Foundation's fashion show will help provide additional funding for uncompensated mammograms and breast health care provided by the EvergreenHealth Breast Health Center.
"We are so grateful for the generosity of this supportive community," said EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte. "All patients deserve access to comprehensive, breakthrough care and the incredible contributions from our Eastside neighbors and friends of EvergreenHealth go a long way in helping us to increase access to care for those who need it most."
The fashion show, produced by Neiman Marcus, featured a preview of the fall trends that will be revealed tonight at the annual Fashion's Night Out event, which is held in major cities across the country. The EvergreenHealth runway show began with new patient-inspired hospital gown designs that are intended to feel more comfortable for patients while receiving a mammogram at an EvergreenHealth Breast Health center.
Since EvergreenHealth became the first provider in the Puget Sound region to offer 3D mammography in 2011, its breast health center has screened more than 12,000 patients with the new technology and as a result, identified 40 cancers in patients that would have otherwise gone undetected by traditional 2D imaging.
Also this week, EvergreenHealth became the first Seattle-area healthcare organization to offer mobile 3D-screening technology aboard its mobile mammography coach. Its mobile coach is the only one of its kind in the Western United States and is the second in the nation.
Three-dimensional screenings use digital imaging to create a full reconstruction of the breast, allowing radiologists to detect breast tissue abnormalities at the earliest stages. The 3D-screening unit generates a stack of images of one-millimeter-thin layers of the breast tissue. Instead of viewing all the complexities of the breast in one flat image, radiologists examine the tissue one millimeter at a time, making fine details more clearly visible.
