Evergreen Packaging® Announces Made By Milk® Contest Winners
Lillian Ruediger Elementary named grand prize winner of nationwide carton construction contest
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Evergreen Packaging®, the leader in beverage paperboard carton manufacturing, today announced the winners of its Made By Milk® Carton Construction Contest. Lillian Ruediger Elementary of Tallahassee, Florida, won the grand prize of $5,000 for their "Roadrunners Endless Summer Surfin' Safari." Thirteen other schools were honored as well, with prizes totaling nearly $20,000.
Now in its sixth and final year, the Made By Milk® Carton Construction Contest invites students nationwide to build novel creations using empty milk or juice cartons for the chance to win prizes for their school. This year's contest theme was "Sports," and entries ranged from synchronized swimmers to a full-sized kayak to a replica of the Coliseum. The grand-prize-winning "Roadrunners Endless Summer Surfin' Safari" – a nod to Lillian Ruediger Elementary's mascot – featured a large roadrunner surfing a tidal wave and repurposed nearly 600 cartons.
"The Made By Milk® Carton Construction Contest gives students around the country the opportunity to express their creativity while also learning about the benefits of paper gable-top cartons," said Katie Simmons, marketing manager for Evergreen Packaging. "We'd like to congratulate each student who participated in this year's contest, as this year's entries were more impressive than ever before."
"When the art club students found out about the Made by Milk contests theme, Sports, they immediately began brainstorming ideas for their entry. After deciding on the sport of surfing, featured on many of our state's license plates, the idea was formed to use our school mascot as the surfer," said Katharyn Jones, Art Teacher at Lillian Ruediger Elementary. "Students worked together to create a sustainable sculpture that is now the pride of the school."
