Events to help Virginia students plan for college
ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) is sponsoring College Nights at 27 locations throughout Virginia, now through November 15. The free events, which have been held each year since 2007, help students and families learn about planning and paying for college. A drawing for four $500 scholarships will be held at each location. More information is available at www.collegenights.org.
College Nights are part of a trio of events to help students navigate the college-going process. These events are part of a partnership with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA).
Virginia College Application Week (Nov. 18-22). College Application Week is part of a national initiative designed to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential. Counselors and volunteers give hands-on assistance to students, who are encouraged to submit at least one college application during the week. Additionally, Virginia institutions provide application fee waivers and informational materials. For more information, contact [email protected].
Super FAFSA Week (Feb. 1-8, 2014). Formerly Super Saturday, Super FAFSA Week is a service project of VASFAA and is being held at locations throughout Virginia. Anyone seeking funding for postsecondary education is encouraged to attend and can receive free, one-on-one assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For more information, visit www.vasfaa.org/super.
"We are excited for the momentum building around our partnership with SCHEV and VASFAA to promote these three timely events," said Paula Craw, Vice President, ECMC Outreach and Financial Literacy. "We are committed to helping Virginia and the U.S. Department of Education meet their goal of increasing FAFSA completions."
