Event Tomorrow: 2,000 Parents, Education Advocates to Call on State to Expand Access to School Choice, 1pm
Top Lawmakers—Including Lieutenant Governor Taylor and House Speaker Batchelder—to Participate in School Choice Rally at the Statehouse
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 2,000 parents, children, and elected officials will demand that the state expand access to school choice at a Statehouse rally in Columbus tomorrow. The hour long event will begin at 1 PM at the West Lawn of the Ohio Statehouse.
Participants from across the state will offer support for legislative proposals that would provide low-and middle-income parents with better educational options. Pending legislation would dramatically expand programs that allow children to receive school vouchers to attend the private schools of their parents' choice.
Advocates are also calling on the state to implement a new school voucher program for children with special needs.
Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor, House Speaker Bill Batchelder, State Treasurer Josh Mandel, House Majority Floor Leader Matt Huffman, State Representative Bill Patmon, State Senate President Pro Tempore Keith Faber and US Congressman Jim Jordan will participate in the event, which is sponsored by state and national school choice organizations.
