Event: Reforming The Pentagon
Featuring U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D.
ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On September 18, Concerned Veterans for America (CVA), the Weekly Standard and a slate of top-notch legislators and policy experts will host a special panel discussion exploring the prospects of reforming Pentagon spending.
The debate over defense sequestration cuts in Washington has become ritualized and entrenched, and a further round of sequester cuts is likely. In light of our $17 trillion debt, "deficit hawks" emphasize the need for the Department of Defense (DOD) to contribute to spending reform. At the same time, in a dangerous world of evolving threats, "defense hawks" emphasize the need to maintain the most powerful and technologically advanced military in the world. How can these two compelling positions be reconciled?
This event is the fourth in CVA's "Defend & Reform Breakfast Series," and will feature Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.). Moderated by Stephen F. Hayes, of the Weekly Standard columnist, panelists include Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), Thomas Donnelly of American Enterprise Institute, Richard Spencer of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and Pete Hegseth, CEO of CVA.
