EVA Reveals New Uniforms at Celebration of Now-Retired 747s

Service staff shows off ensembles with Queen of the Skies backdrop

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Aug. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- EVA Air revealed new service staff uniforms against the backdrop of its last 747 passenger jet in a celebration of the legacy of service it established over almost 25 years with the Queen of the Skies on Thursday, August 24, 2017. The airline staged the celebration at its maintenance, repair and overhaul affiliate, Evergreen Aviation Technologies. EVA chose trend-setting luxury fashion house Shiatzy Chen to create the new uniforms.

EVA Air revealed new uniforms for service staff on flights and at airports. Those for cabin crew and female ground staff have standing collars that suggest the idea of flying.

EVA positioned its retired jumbo jet behind the catwalk used by service staff to introduce their third-generation uniforms. EVA took its last 747 passenger flight on August 21. It will introduce its new look on flights and at airports in November 2017.

"As we bid farewell to our 'Queen of the Skies' and her remarkable performance, we welcome our new service image," said EVA Air Chairman Steve Lin. "We designed these uniforms for style, comfort and function, and to further enhance our service team's professional image."

EVA's current uniforms were introduced in 2003. The airline began working with Shiatzy Chen and lead designer Ms. Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia to create the new uniforms in 2015. The designer used color blocks, geometric patterns and streamlined shapes for professional attire with classic appeal. She chose tourmaline green, or verdelite, as the uniforms' base color.

On women's uniforms, standing collars convey the idea of flying. For the cabin crew, red collars identify chief pursers, pink represents deputy pursers and light green signifies flight attendants. For female ground staff, red collars designate supervisors and light green denotes traffic officers. Scarves further set the new uniforms apart from the current ones.

Uniforms for male ground staff suggest three-piece suits. Aircraft wings formed by green or orange dots stand out against black background on ties. Vests feature pockets for keeping pens and notebooks handy.

To fully meet its service staff's uniform needs, EVA commissioned development of a high-performance fabric that blends elastic and antistatic carbon-fiber yarns. Quick-drying and moisture-absorbent, the fabric is also flexible and breathable, ensuring that service staff can look and feel good as they attend to passengers.
