Eva Carey is Appointed President of Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy Hoboken
HOBOKEN, N.J., Jan. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Eva Carey has been appointed president of Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy Hoboken.
"We're pleased to welcome Eva to our Hoboken campus," said Arlin Schmidt, CEO of Cortiva Institute. "She brings with her over 19 years of experience in massage therapy and massage therapy education and an energetic dedication to inspiring and guiding future massage therapists."
Carey received an MBA in International Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Prior to becoming a licensed massage therapist and educator, Carey was a bond trader with Morgan Stanley in New York. She retired from Wall Street to start a family and embarked on a new career in massage therapy, partly because of the flexibility it offered as she raised her children. She says she was "immediately drawn to the people and the powerful impact that massage therapy can have on everyone."
Prior to being appointed president of the Hoboken campus of Cortiva Institute, Carey was co-owner of Healing Hands Institute for Massage Therapy in Westwood, NJ. Carey developed and introduced the first hospital based massage program in the state of New Jersey and developed the 1000+ hour New York Professionals Program for New York state licensure. She has been a nationally certified massage therapist, a member of the AMTA Council of Schools and a New Jersey Certified Massage Therapist.
Her particular area of interest is in medical massage, children and the elderly. "Bond trading could never provide such positive feedback as clients when they tell you how significant your work is in their lives. Pain and stress relief as well as diminished anxiety -these are all extremely powerful words that massage therapists receive daily about their work. I don't believe there is another profession that gets that kind of feedback," she says. In her new position, she says she is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment with educational excellence.
Carey lives in northern New Jersey with her husband and two children. She is active in several community non-profit organizations.
