EV drivers can now charge their vehicle at 7,000 ft in Ridgway, Colorado thanks to Kitu Systems

RIDGWAY, Colo., March 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Town of Ridgway deployed the Kitu Convoy^TM charging solution, becoming one of the first communities in Colorado to provide residents, travelers and commuters with a convenient, user-friendly and fast way to charge electric vehicles (EV).

Driven by the resolute support of Ridgway's Town Council, many highly engaged citizens, and the San Miguel Power Association, Ridgway made EV charging infrastructure a high priority beginning in 2015.

After exploring several alternatives, the Town determined that Kitu Convoy was the most suitable, intuitive, and cost-effective choice. The stations were installed in December 2017, with funding and support from Charge Ahead Colorado, a Colorado Energy Office and Regional Air Quality Council grant program for EV chargers to improve air quality and encourage deployment of EVs across the state.

"The completion of our new EV charging station is another important step down Ridgway's path towards sustainability, one that I hope will eventually allow us to be carbon neutral," said Ridgway Mayor John Clark.

The citizens' response is already overwhelmingly positive, with higher EVSE usage than projected. "Your EVSE is the fastest charging station I've yet encountered," said a local EV owner. "It is well worth the stop for EV drivers passing through. There are more amenities close to your station than almost anywhere else I've charged."

Due to Ridgway's central location, the Town anticipates increased usage by many tourists and locals, and to see more EV owners as programs like Charge Ahead Colorado help overcome the challenges of equipping rural areas.
