European Union Congratulates President Obama on his Re-election

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leaders of the European Union today congratulated President Barack Obama on his re-election as President of the United States of America.

"The United States is a key strategic partner of the European Union and we look forward to continuing the close cooperation established with President Obama over these last four years, to further strengthening our bilateral ties and to jointly addressing global challenges, including in the fields of security and economy," said European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in a joint statement.

They noted that the creation of growth and jobs remains a priority for both the U.S. and the EU and that cooperation continues to unlock the unparalleled potential of the transatlantic market.

Ambassador Joao Vale de Almeida, Head of the European Union Delegation to the United States, also congratulated President Obama and the elected Members of Congress, saying that he "looks forward to continuing the solid EU-U.S. cooperation on a broad common agenda."
