European style luxury home on Indian Valley Lake to sell in Oct. 23 auction

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A European style luxury home in Hoover's exclusive Southlake area – surrounded on three sides by waters of Indian Valley Lake – will sell at auction Thursday, Oct. 23, with Target Auction Company managing the sale.

"Even by the standards of the area, this estate really stands out. It's set on a small peninsula that is surrounded by water, and the home was built to make the most of those views, with 780 feet of frontage," said Jeff Hathorn, of the auction company.

Hathorn said auctions of luxury homes have been relatively rare in recent years. "There just haven't been many opportunities to buy a home like this, so it will be interesting to see how the local market responds," he said.

The home has seven bedrooms, seven full baths, four half baths, five fireplaces, a wine cellar, a tennis court and a media center with stadium seating. "I've been involved in the auctions of many homes owned by celebrities and professional athletes, and this compares favorably with the very best of them," said Hathorn.

The home is being sold by Terry and Sheron Johnson, who have owned it since 1998. "We're empty nesters, and this is just a much bigger home than we need at this point in our lives," said Johnson, a retired telecommunications executive and entrepreneur.
