Eureka Math to Serve as Comprehensive Solution to Connect CCSS to Effective Math Instruction
WASHINGTON, Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As states and school districts prepare to implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in the coming school year, the non-profit Common Core, Inc. today announced the launch of Eureka Math, a comprehensive, content-rich PreK-12 mathematics curriculum and professional development platform distinguished by its deep adherence to the CCSS-Mathematics.
Following two years of development led by master teachers and math scholars, Eureka Math provides an easily navigable online platform for providing the comprehensive mathematics curriculum Common Core created for the New York State Education Department (NYSED), housed on engageny.org. Eureka Math includes embedded professional development and customized functionality that allows teachers to move readily through the curriculum in response to student needs.
"Eureka Math is peerless in its faithfulness to CCSS-M. The teams of scholars and teachers who crafted this curriculum possess authoritative knowledge of the standards and of mathematics. That knowledge is reflected in every page of Eureka Math," said Lynne Munson, Common Core, Inc., president and executive director. "Eureka offers the opportunity for teachers to learn along with these teams of experts. Through embedded video and significant scaffolding tools, Eureka provides educators with a high-quality instructional plan to help students achieve new, higher expectations."
The most comprehensive and rigorously juried curricular treatment of CCSS-M in existence today, Eureka Math was developed by Common Core, Inc. a Washington, DC-based not-for-profit organization (not affiliated with CCSS) that creates content-rich curriculum tools and promotes programs, policies, and initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels. Earlier this summer the State of Louisiana and its Office of the State Superintendent of Education recommended Common Core's mathematics curriculum, sponsored by NYSED, to educators, praising the curriculum for its rigor and alignment with CCSS.
"The goal of Eureka Math is to produce students who are not merely literate, but fluent, in mathematics. Eureka will support and empower educators as they seek to meet, and even surpass, the new expectations set by the CCSS-M," Munson said.
Eureka Math is available at Common Core's website (commoncore.org). Over time, Eureka will be further enhanced with additional student-facing materials, professional development tools, and dashboard functionality.
Eureka is the latest addition to Common Core's new online curriculum library, which includes the Wheatley Portfolio (English-language arts), the Alexandria Plan (social studies), and Teachers Guild (professional development).
