EU Newsbrief: 27th AFI-EU Film Showcase Celebrates First-Class European Cinema
WASHINGTON , Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2014 AFI-EU Film Showcase opens Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland. Presented by the American Film Institute (AFI) in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to the United States and EU Member States, the festival showcases the best in European filmmaking. Now in its 27th edition, it is the signature fall event for movie-lovers in the DC metro area.
This year's selection of more than 50 films includes international film festival award winners, local box-office hits and debut works by promising new talents, as well as many countries' official submissions for the Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film.
The festival opens with WARSAW UPRISING, a film by Polish director Jan Komasa commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Working with six hours of authentic documentary and newsreel footage filmed in Warsaw in the summer and fall of 1944, Komasa has fashioned a remarkable non-fiction narrative of the momentous events surrounding the Warsaw Uprising.
The closing night presentation is the U.S. premiere of Anne Fontaine's GEMMA BOVERY (France).
The festival runs until December 21. For more highlights, including the full schedule of films, please visit:
