Under the contract terms, ETS is developing an innovative, research-based, online testing program that provides evidence of entry-level teacher practice, evolving as new technologies become available.
"Georgia intends to revolutionize its teacher certification system and made their expectations very clear," says ETS President and CEO Kurt Landgraf. "ETS will deliver a forward-looking, quality certification assessment program beginning with a comprehensive introduction of innovative item types during the first year of testing for all content areas."
The GACE program will consist of an array of brand new assessments that are aligned to all Georgia-mandated standards as well as the Common Core State Standards. Specifically, ETS is developing specifications and forms for 90 test titles including four new performance-based offerings in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Leadership, Instructional Technology and Educational Leadership.
In addition to the assessments, ETS is building brand-new test preparation materials, including the development and delivery of full-length, online, interactive practice tests. Other enhancements include a "ready-to-test" eligibility system, improved customer service including Live Chat, a redesigned website that leverages usability testing, and faculty workshops that will help program providers prepare their candidates.
"We want to continue to enhance our certification assessment program, incorporating new technologies, that will help ensure educators have the knowledge and skills to be successful in Georgia's schools," says Mr. Kelly Henson, Executive Secretary of the GaPSC. "We believe that ETS's strong research arm, drive for innovation, and commitment to quality will help Georgia reach the next level."
Landgraf says, "It's a privilege working with Georgia on its teacher certification system, and we are 100 percent committed to a successful launch of GACE."
