ETS Releases the Most Comprehensive Data on GRE® Test Takers Worldwide
PRINCETON, N.J., Nov. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, the GRE Program has released A Snapshot of the Individuals Who Took the GRE® revised General Test. This year's report is the most up-to-date and comprehensive information available about the GRE test-taker population.
"Because the GRE revised General Test is the most widely used graduate and business school admissions test, this report serves as an indicator of the potential pipeline of those pursuing graduate study," says David Payne, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Higher Education Division at ETS. "To provide score users with the most relevant information, this year's report includes new data on test takers with MBA as their graduate degree objective as well as expanded information on interests and intentions of those individuals in the GRE applicant pool."
Data in the report confirms that the GRE revised General Test applicant pool continues to be large and diverse with more than half a million test takers from regions across the globe taking the first step toward a graduate or business school degree.
- Non-U.S. citizens now represent approximately one-third of the entire GRE test-taking population.
- There were more 18- to 22-year-old test takers this testing year, 37 percent compared to 34 percent in the 2011-2012 testing year.
- Test takers who identified natural sciences as their intended graduate major increased to 32 percent from 27 percent.
"Data of this nature are often requested by score users and we hope that this year's expanded report will continue to be an important tool for admissions officers, deans, faculty, policymakers, researchers and recruiters to better understand the test-taker population," adds Payne.
Data in the report were based on more than half a million unique test takers who tested between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013, with valid scores on all three measures of the test. The full report is available at www.ets.org/gre/snapshot.
