ETS-CDF Symposium on Closing Opportunity Gaps for Black Male Teens to Succeed in High School
WASHINGTON, June 17, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) will hold a one-day symposium titled, "Black Male Teens: Moving to Success in the High School Years." The nation's top researchers, educators, child advocates and policymakers will discuss the reality that American high schools are failing many Black young men, leaving them unprepared for college and career opportunities. Black men age 18 and over in 2008 represented only five percent of the total college student population, but 36 percent of the total prison population. A Black boy born in 2001 has a one in three chance of going to prison in his lifetime. The day-long event will offer evidence of highly effective programs closing the opportunity and achievement gaps.
