Esurance Kicks Off Nationwide Poems of the Road Contest
NPR's "Car Talk" Guys to Judge; $2,000 to Grand Prize Winner
SAN FRANCISCO, April 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Esurance, the direct-to-consumer personal car insurance company, has announced a poetry contest that invites car enthusiasts everywhere to wax lyrical about "the road." The competition, called the Esurance Poems of the Road Contest, will commemorate National Poetry Month and help get drivers revved up about cars and writing.

NPR's Car Talk guys, Tom and Ray Magliozzi, will lend their literary and automotive expertise as guest judges, and people can read the poems and vote for their favorite via Facebook. To qualify for the contest, a poem must be 14 lines or less, original, and feature the word "road" in the body or title.
The nationwide search for the best original "road" poem offers $3,500 in cash for three talented poets, with a grand prize of $2,000 going to the first-place winner, $1,000 for second-place, and $500 for third-place.
Aspiring writers can enter starting today by visiting Esurance's Facebook contest page. The contest runs through April 30, 2012. People can vote on their favorite poems through May 7, 2012.
The Esurance panel of judges will read all entries and judge based on the following criteria: Creativity/originality – 25%; Content – 25%; Imagery – 25%; Facebook voting 25%. The top three poems will then be presented to the Car Talk guys, who will pick the first-, second- and third-place winners.
