SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Esurance announced a national volunteer effort to help communities recover after Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, and wildfires in Northern California wreaked havoc across the US.
The kickoff day of service took place on Cyber Monday, a day well-known for online shopping. As a company born online and raised by technology, Esurance embraces all that an online shopping day can offer. But this year, the company decided to do something different, taking its employees offline to give back.

"Helping people rebuild after a catastrophe is at the core of what we do as an insurance company," said Jonathan Adkisson, president of Esurance. "Following the recent disasters, many of our employees volunteered their personal time and donated money to help their communities. Now, we're coming together as a unified force, stepping out of the office for a day to help give back to the most impacted communities."
Esurance is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Dallas and Tampa, so this year's hurricanes and fires hit close to home and impacted its employees and their families, friends, and neighbors. While Esurance catastrophe response teams came together quickly, using advanced technology to waive inspections, settle claims fast, and reimburse customers, Esurance employees wanted to do more to help these communities recover.
"At Esurance, we use technology to make the insurance process simple and convenient, and most importantly, to help our customers quickly recover when they need it most," said Nancy Abraham, vice president of integrated marketing communications at Esurance. "After the devastating losses suffered by so many of our friends and neighbors, we wanted to do more to help them restore their lives and get back to normal. So, we're rolling up our sleeves to give our time and support to those affected by the catastrophic events."
Esurance-sponsored volunteer days are taking place in coordination with local volunteer centers and food banks throughout this week with additional days in December. Staggering the volunteer days allows the company to encourage maximum participation without disruption to customer service. During this time, Esurance offices will remain open and customer service representatives available to assist customers.
The event is part of the company's overarching "Doing Good at Esurance" program, which harnesses and amplifies individual employee's contributions and coordinates local volunteer opportunities. This year, nearly 2,000 Esurance employees volunteered more than 8,000 hours, almost doubling last year's efforts, helping community programs such as food banks and youth services.
