The CEI is an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. Esurance joins the ranks of 338 other major U.S. businesses that get top marks for their treatment of LGBT employees and consumers.
The CEI rated 618 businesses in total, evaluating LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination policies, transgender health benefits, and domestic partner benefits. Esurance's efforts in ensuring LGBT equality in each of the survey's main criteria earned it the prestigious 100-percent ranking.
"At Esurance we believe that diversity and inclusion are key drivers of creativity and innovation in the workplace," said Gary Tolman, President and CEO of Esurance. "Maintaining a diverse, inclusive work environment is an ongoing process and the responsibility of all our associates, and we have worked hard to keep our Human Rights Campaign 100-percent rating for the fourth consecutive year. This award is recognition of our associates' commitment to these principles and their dedication in applying them in our everyday interactions with our customers and in our local communities."
Esurance was one of the first insurance companies to offer discounts to domestic partners who list on the same policy. The company also promotes and sponsors Pride festivals around the country, including events in Houston, Sioux Falls, and Tampa, as well as this week's Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. The event takes place from October 15-24, and is the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, featuring the latest in LGBT film and video, from major motion picture premieres to emerging talent.
