Establishing a Manufacturing Supplier Base in Saltillo, Mexico is the Subject of Offshore Group Podcast
Manufacturers reap many logistics and cost advantages from establishing a local manufacturing supplier base in Saltillo, Mexico
TUCSON, Ariz., March 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Offshore Group recently sat down to speak with Alejandro Sanchez of the Kenosha, Wisconsin-based Powerbrace Corporation on the subject of establishing a manufacturing supplier base in the City of Saltillo, Mexico. Sanchez is the plant manager of the company's Saltillo manufacturing operation.
Although many manufacturers from the U.S. and other nations have production facilities in Saltillo, sometimes referred to as "Little Detroit," not all of them take full advantage of the local Mexican supplier network that has grown in the city and the region over the last several decades.
During the course of the discussion, Sanchez points out that Saltillo manufacturing is widely known for its technical expertise. In addition to precision machine shops, foundries, steel mills, heat treating facilities and powder coating operations, Saltillo and other regional suppliers offer a diversity of metal finishing, TIG welding, plastic injection molding and other services to companies that are manufacturing there. Additionally, Saltillo is home to nineteen technical and fourteen vocational schools. This educational infrastructure supports Saltillo manufacturers by providing them with qualified human capital.
According to Sanchez, "It's easy to find good suppliers when the dominant automotive industry in Saltillo is constantly pushing companies to develop and to improve upon their product offerings and services."
Powerbrace is the premier manufacturer of heavy-duty door securement products for cargo that is shipped by trailer or container. The company offers quality lockrods and hinges, plus special cargo door security products and accessories for trailer/container manufacture and repair. For over 50 years Powerbrace has sold both the "Miner" and "Powerbrace" brands.
The Offshore Group is the largest provider of outsourced business support, "shelter" services in Mexico. Currently 61 businesses operate at The Offshore Group's three Mexico manufacturing industrial parks in the State of Sonora, the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, and at the Group's Vangtel subsidiary in Hermosillo. Vangtel offers Mexico shelter services to companies that occupy the call center, IT development and BPO markets, while the International Logistic Solutions Company (ILS) is a leading provider of supply chain services. The Offshore Group has recently initiated operations in Mexico's second largest city, Guadalajara.
