Esimit Europa 2 Ends an Amazing Season with an Excellent Performance on Malta
Supreme performance at the Rolex Middle Sea Race - Eleven consecutive wins in five regattas solidify the position of Igor Simcic's 30-meter giant on the throne of the best maxi yachts in the world - The yacht's owner and general manager is already considering how to expand this unique Pan-European project
TRIESTE, Italy, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Esimit Europa 2 overwhelmingly won the Rolex Middle Sea Race, one of the most difficult regattas in Europe. The eleventh consecutive race win in five regattas was a great ending to an incredible season. The season also rewarded the owner Igor Simcic, the skipper Flavio Favini and the rest of the crew with two records, achieved at Palermo-Monte Carlo and Barcolana regattas, proving the yacht's technological advantage and excellent performance by the crew. The 30-meter beauty covered the 606 nautical miles between Malta and Sicily in 2 days, 6 hours and 52 minutes, sailing under the European flag and sponsored by Gazprom. It carried with it the message of friendship and collaboration between European nations and contributes to the Europeans' awareness of environmental issues.
"We have an amazing season behind us and we have achieved all of the goals we set out for ourselves and proved that nothing is left to coincidence in the Esimit Europa project. It is a great honour and responsibility to sail under the flag of the European Union and be sponsored by such a respected company as Gazprom, while also promoting the values of the European Energy movement. We took our Pan-European mission very seriously and continued to invest in the project to ensure that the yacht and the team were constantly prepared as best as possible," said Igor Simcic, owner of Esimit Europa 2 and Esimit Europa project general manager. "Our plan for the next season includes participating in all of the regattas we competed in this year but we may well add more. It is too early to speak of more ambitious plans and I am pragmatic by nature so any details about broadening the project in sporting or business terms will be known when we have the necessary foundations to execute," added Simcic.
Flavio Favini did not hide his enthusiasm: "The Rolex Middle Sea Race is known as a difficult and unpredictable race, where tragic events unfolded in the past so we made sure to be prepared. There were no extreme winds or very high waves. Nevertheless, the wind was a problem for all yachts as their crews had to deal with wind speeds and directions that literally changed every hour. These conditions required us to change sails often and constantly make new tactical decisions based on our predictions of future conditions. Esimit Europa 2 and the entire team were uncompromising in their efforts and the victory was never in doubt. I am proud that I can say that I am currently the skipper on the best maxi yacht in the world and I am looking forward to future challenges."
