Ernst & Young LLP joins 100,000 Jobs Mission and expands other initiatives to support veterans
Firm achieves goal to hire more veterans and increases inclusiveness efforts to help veterans transition from the military
NEW YORK, June 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ernst & Young LLP has advanced its commitment to supporting veterans by recently joining the 100,000 Jobs Mission and expanding other efforts to benefit veterans, including helping them to transition from a military career to working at the firm.
In March 2012, the 100,000 Jobs Mission was an effort by 40 companies to hire at least 100,000 military veterans and transitioning service members by 2020. The coalition has collectively hired more than 12,000 veterans through March 31, 2012, and has now grown to 52 member companies. As part of the Mission, the firm set a 2% goal for hiring veterans in its Advisory practice in the US through targeted recruiting efforts. The firm has already met this goal in the first quarter of 2012 and now seeks to greatly surpass it by accelerating its focused veterans recruiting and hiring efforts. While the firm is focusing its efforts on its Advisory service line, it plans to replicate the process throughout Ernst & Young LLP.
"The men and women who serve in the military never hesitate to give more, inspiring Ernst & Young to continually seek new ways to strengthen its support of veterans and honor their commitment to our country," said Nancy Altobello, Ernst & Young LLP's Vice Chair, People. "Our business benefits tremendously from the leadership skills, work ethic, mission focus and teaming abilities veterans bring to our firm."
"We applaud Ernst & Young for their commitment to our nation's veterans and to the 100,000 Jobs Mission," said Tom Higgins, Head of Operational Control and Military and Veterans Affairs for JPMorgan Chase, a founding member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission. "Their efforts are truly making a difference for the thousands of transitioning military members, veterans and their families who are looking for opportunities to lead successful lives after sacrificing so much for our country."
Beyond these new initiatives, Ernst & Young LLP continues to strengthen its existing efforts supporting veterans including:
The Ernst & Young Veterans Network
Established in June 2010, the Ernst & Young Veterans Network supports veterans in their career development and their transition from the military to civilian life at EY. Doubling its participation in the last fiscal year, the network has grown to 200 members and has transformed from a local community to a national group with representation throughout Ernst & Young LLP service lines and regions. Every US branch of service (Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps), as well as foreign veterans and non-veteran supporters from all corners of the firm are represented. Participants connect with one another through a peer mentoring program, events, networking functions, community projects, communication and other initiatives.
Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans' Families
Ernst & Young LLP is a founding sponsor of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (Families). EBV-F is an entrepreneurship training program for immediate family members of returning veterans with disabilities and surviving spouses of fallen heroes aimed at helping them succeed economically. Administered through Syracuse's Whitman School of Business, EBV-F is a companion program of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, which was named a "national best practice" for serving veterans and their families by the Secretary of the Army in 2009. Ernst & Young LLP is also teaming with Syracuse's disabilities research center, advising on the development of tools and resources for companies hiring veterans. The EBV program was developed in 2007.
