Ernst & Young LLP Busy Tabulating Ballots For 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards
Firm marks 24 years overseeing Emmy voting process and safeguarding results
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The television industry has spoken...and the Los Angeles office of Ernst & Young LLP is busy tabulating the thousands of Primetime Emmy® Award ballots that will determine the winners of the 64th Primetime Emmy® Awards. The Awards will be telecast live beginning with the Red Carpet Preshow on ABC on Sunday, September 23, 2012, 4:00 p.m. PST/7:00 p.m. EST from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California.
Ernst & Young LLP, a member firm of the global Ernst & Young organization that is a leader in assurance, tax, transaction, advisory services and strategic growth markets, has been overseeing the balloting process for the Primetime Emmy® Awards for the past 24 years.
"In addition to tabulating the votes, we work with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to protect the Emmy® brand by reviewing the process, the fair application of all rules and the security of balloting," said Andy Sale, Ernst & Young LLP, lead partner for the 2012 Emmy® Awards engagement. "We maintain control of the ballots at all times and only a very few number of people know the winners before the show."
Precautions taken by Ernst & Young LLP include having multiple sets of sealed envelopes transported to the Awards in separate cars taking different routes; triple-checking all results; keeping control of each envelope until handed to the presenter; hand-sealing every envelope; and internally printing the winners' envelopes so the results never leave the Los Angeles office. As a result of these extreme precautions, there has never been a security breach in the 24 years Ernst & Young LLP has been managing the balloting process.
As in years past, the envelopes containing the names of the winners will make the traditional march down the red carpet in a briefcase handcuffed to a senior Ernst & Young LLP partner for media around the world to see.
