Ernie Allen to Receive Prestigious "Voice for Women Award" at the Arizona Foundation for Women Sandra Day O'Connor Awards in Scottsdale

ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children announced today that the organization's President and CEO, Ernie Allen, will receive the Voice for Women Award this week from the Arizona Foundation for Women.  Mr. Allen is the first male in the 18 year history of the organization to receive the Voice for Women Award.

Mr. Allen will be honored by the Arizona Foundation for Women at their 17th Annual Sandra Day O'Connor Award Luncheon on Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.  More than 1000 people are expected to attend the event.    

The Sandra Day O'Connor Award Luncheon is held each year to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact in the lives of women and children.  According to the Arizona Foundation for Women, each year the organization presents the Voice for Women Award to recognize someone who has demonstrated vision and courage to pro-actively generate public attention and global awareness to critical issues impacting women.  The recipient of the award also serves as a voice of inspiration for all women. 

The event is named for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor who was the first award recipient and who frequently attends the luncheon.  Justice O'Connor served as an Associate Justice from her appointment to the court in 1981 by President Ronald Reagan until her retirement in 2006.  Justice O'Connor was the first woman to be appointed to the Court.    

Others recognized in the past by the Arizona Foundation for Women include Madeleine Albright, Barbara Bush, Marian Wright Edelman, Tipper Gore, Billie Jean King and Sally Ride among others. 

The Arizona Foundation for Women is dedicated to enhancing the lives of women and children in a variety of ways including by providing solutions to problems such as domestic violence and child abuse.  To cultivate the well-being of women the organization promotes innovative solutions to fulfill the needs of women and children in the areas of safety, health and economic security by engaging in research, advocacy and grant making.
