NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- After an extensive nationwide search, OneOncology announced today that the CEO of West Cancer Center, Erich Mounce, has elected to join the national community oncology network as its first chief operating officer.
Mounce's mission is to establish an advanced, connected network of the nation's leading community oncology practices and position them to support the entire continuum of cancer care in any reimbursement environment. In his new role, Mounce will partner with leaders from OneOncology founding practices to optimize practice operations and integrate the latest technologies, research, and clinical trials across all OneOncology practices so that anyone living with cancer can receive world-class treatment, close to home.
"Erich's profound domain expertise and extraordinary leadership skills will add real and lasting value to our organization," said Tracy L. Bahl, President & CEO of OneOncology. "His extensive experience leading change in complex healthcare environments will ensure our partner practices can address all of the challenges and opportunities confronting community oncology today."
Mounce has a proven track record of accelerating growth and working collaboratively with physicians, hospitals, and health plans to develop innovative and technologically-driven partnerships that improve healthcare delivery in the community setting.
"I am proud to become part of the OneOncology team," said Mounce. "Our ability to leverage our physician-leaders' expertise, treatment-and-operational data, and a sophisticated technology platform will serve as a major growth driver for our organization."
Most recently, Mounce was the chief executive officer at West Cancer Center, where he helped transform the large community oncology practice into a united, regional, multi-specialty cancer center in an academic and non-profit hospital environment. In 2018 alone, West Cancer Center treated more than 37,000 people with cancer across medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and gynecological oncology, while offering over 45 active clinical trials for their patients.
Mounce is also a champion for equality in cancer care. While at West Cancer Center, he led the development of a cancer-focused community outreach program that significantly decreased the disparity gap in breast-cancer mortality rates between African-American and Caucasian women in Memphis, according to research from the Sinai Urban Health Institute in Chicago and the New York-based Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
"I am looking forward to sharing my many experiences in cancer operations, hospital operations, and physician-led organizations with other practices in our network," Mounce said. "OneOncology's patient-centric, physician-driven, and technology-powered model is the new standard for community cancer care. Our intent is to provide a compassionate and comprehensive experience for all those living with cancer."
