Panopto was founded as a technology transfer from Carnegie Mellon University. Since 2007, the company has experienced tremendous growth. In 2014, Panopto was recognized by Deloitte as one of the fastest-growing technology businesses in North America, and by Gartner as a Leader in the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Video Content Management. As co-founder and chief product officer of Panopto, Burns has led the company's technology vision and development efforts and has played a central role in growing the company to one of the leading video platform providers worldwide. Before founding Panopto, Eric was a software engineer at Microsoft Corporation, where he played an early role in developing search engines with the group that became Bing. He received his Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University, where he oversaw the design, development, and implementation of digital library and large-scale information search platforms.
"Seven years ago, Panopto set out to build a system that would dramatically improve the way businesses and universities share knowledge using video," said Eric Burns. "Today, as lecture recording software becomes as prevalent as email on college campuses, and as video becomes the preferred medium for communication within businesses, we see unprecedented opportunity for Panopto.
