NEW YORK, June 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Equinox—the high performance lifestyle leader—today announced its #POWEREDBYPRIDE 2016 "Partners in Pride" Series, where five global cities will each host a celebration combining two diverse fitness classes in the name of one proud community. These latest festivities reaffirm Equinox's powerful, ongoing commitment to the LGBTQA community and illustrate the notion that our differences make us stronger.
The Partners in Pride Series events will fuse two unlikely classes— yoga/ropes, Pilates/HIIT or dance/tabata—to demonstrate how opposing movements, sounds and personalities come together in perfect harmony. Each event will be set to the tune of live, juxtaposing music acts, whose combined musical techniques will produce a fittingly distinct soundtrack.
"Equinox has always empowered people to be proud and unapologetic about who they are," said Carlos Becil, Equinox Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Equinox. "Now, more than ever, we're proud to be an advocate for and voice within the LGBTQA community as we move forward together. In continuation of our ongoing Powered by Pride efforts, we're working with The Center and Albert Kennedy Trust this year, two organizations that meaningfully support this community every day."
Partners in Pride events will be held in New York, Los Angeles, London, Chicago, Toronto in the lead-up to each city's respective Pride celebration and parade, and are open to members and non-members alike. Please visit https://eqxpoweredbypride.splashthat.com/ to register.
In order to extend the celebration throughout Pride Month and further encourage self-expression, Equinox has partnered with Chloe's Soft Serve Fruit Co. and Lance Bass to create a custom soft serve fruit pop. $1 from each sale of the bespoke pop, as well as $1 from ANY custom "pop, dip and roll" bar sold in the New York shop during the month of June, will be donated to The Center, which serves NYC's LGBT community. Supporters nationwide can purchase Chloe's Pops at their local supermarkets, get creative at home and tag their post on social media, with Equinox and Chloe's donating $1 to The Center for every social media post featuring #PoweredbyPride, @equinox and @chloesfruit.
"The Center is thrilled to be an Equinox Partner in Pride, as we work year-round to support New York City's vibrant LGBT community," said Glennda Testone, Executive Director at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. "We salute and thank Equinox for its dedication to celebrating and supporting our diverse community to be happy, healthy and proud of who we are."
"We would like to thank Equinox for donating this event as a fundraiser for AKT and for their recognition of the important work of The Albert Kennedy Trust. They share our belief that there should be no room for hate," said Tim Sigsworth MBE, Chef Executive of The Albert Kennedy Trust. "Right now in the UK, 4,800 young LGBT people are homeless or living in hostile conditions. We can assure all those attending that money raised at this event will go directly towards supporting our young LGBT people, and giving them the start in life they deserve."
Five events will bring together different people, from all backgrounds, moving forward, as one:
Los Angeles: June 7
In the City of Angels, Ropes will join Yoga in hybrid harmony. Posing on a rooftop will never feel so good. The event will take place at The London Hotel in West Hollywood, hosted by celebrity stylist Johnny Wujek and featuring musical performances by DJ Whitney Fierce and electric violinist Jason Yang.
London: June 13
In London, Equinox merges mind and body for some intense teasing. At our second event, Pilates and HIIT will become one at One Marlybone. Co-hosted by actor Russell Tovey, music guests include Fat Tony, Munroe Bergdorf, Kid Massive and Jimmy Somerville. In London, Equinox is supporting The Albert Kenny Trust, which supports LGBT youth who are homeless or living in a hostile environment.
Chicago: June 21
Join Equinox where the moon meets the stars. Dance and Tabata will get participants moving and shaking at Adler Planetarium.
Toronto: June 23
Partners in Pride is crossing borders, literally. Move the beat and work your seat with Dance and Tabata at The 519. Co-hosted by Biko Beuttah, and joined by DJ Kori Hall and Drummer Oscar de Conga.
New York: June 23
Finally, on the eve of NYC Pride, Dance and Tabata will combine at Industria Superstudio. Co-hosted by Lance Bass, with musical guests that will include the Misshapes, Tonewall of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, Nomi Ruiz and Brooke Candy. Equinox is supporting The Center in New York City and their work with LGBT youth. The Center serves to empower the city's LGBT people, by fostering a supportive environment where everyone is celebrated for who they are.
