Epson Debuts Digital Photo-Realist Bert Monroy's "Times Square" Image on Epson's New DisplayTrans Media at PhotoPlus Expo
Four Years in the Making and Built Pixel by Pixel, Monroy's "Times Square" Image Features More Than 750,000 Photoshop Layers of Real People and Places in New York City
NEW YORK, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- PhotoPlus Expo, Booth # 602 -- Epson today is showcasing a major artistic accomplishment in its booth at PhotoPlus Expo in New York City. Acclaimed artist Bert Monroy recently completed a 5' x 25' hyper-realistic image of Times Square that was printed on Epson's DisplayTrans™ media using an Epson Stylus® Pro 11880 printer. This massive backlit display will be visible to the public for the first time and can be seen through the duration of PhotoPlus Expo, Oct. 28-30.
Monroy's Times Square is the culmination of four years of work. Every element in the image was meticulously created pixel-by-pixel using Adobe® Photoshop® and Adobe Illustrator®. More than 750,000 Photoshop layers were used, bringing to life the likenesses of Monroy's family, friends, scores of luminaries from the imaging industry, and intensely detailed scenes and landmarks in and around Times Square.
"This is the first time I've shown my work in this way and it's really exciting to see how well the piece comes to life when illuminated on Epson's DisplayTrans," said Monroy. "It was crucial to use a printer and media that would reproduce the dark tones in the night sky, but also capture the vibrant colors and hold all of the intricate details. The combination of the Epson 11880 printer and DisplayTrans were pivotal in accomplishing these goals."
