Episcopal Retirement Homes Earns Regional Award for Affordable Housing for Seniors
CINCINNATI, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Episcopal Retirement Homes (ERH), which owns and operates ten retirement communities across Greater Cincinnati and southern Ohio, has been given the Excellence in Affordable Senior Housing Preservation Award in partnership with The Model Group and GBBN Architects for their work in remodeling St. Paul Village located in Madisonville.
Chosen from over 50 possible projects, the award was presented at the Ohio Capital Corporation's (OCCH) 14th annual Partner Luncheon that recognizes the many investors, developers, lenders, management companies, nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, and government entities that partner with OCCH in the development of affordable housing in Ohio.
ERH began the renovations in 2010 and recently completed them in April. The building was almost completely gutted down to the studs and new wiring, HVAC systems, plumbing etc. were installed. The new apartments included new Energy Star kitchen appliances and cabinets, carpeting and ceramic tile, new windows and coverings, ceiling fans, and high speed internet and cable connections in each apartment. The apartments were all designed to promote aging in place so that residents can be accommodated as their health needs change. Additionally, a clinic was created for visiting nurses and physicians who help monitor the health of the St. Paul Village residents and identify any potential health issues that may arise.
The community also features amenities not often found in low income housing including laundry facilities, social services, community spaces, a beauty salon, exercise room, ceramics room, library, billiards room, and computer lab. In addition, a geo-thermal heat and air system was installed as part of the renovation that efficiently warms and cools the buildings by using the earth's core temperature. This system also provides significant savings in energy costs.
"We are honored to win this award," said Doug Spitler, President and CEO of ERH. "Together with our partners, the Model Group, GBBN Architects, OCCH, Red Capital Group and Fifth Third Bank, we look forward to providing low income seniors in the Cincinnati area, a quality, safe and affordable home where they can thrive."
