Epic Health Services Expands into Michigan with Acquisition of Pediatric Special Care Inc.
DALLAS, Aug. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Epic Health Services Inc., a portfolio company of Webster Capital and Dallas-based provider of pediatric skilled nursing, therapy, developmental, enteral and respiratory services, announced today that it has expanded into Michigan with the acquisition of Pediatric Special Care Inc. Based in Southfield, Michigan, Pediatric Special Care is the only pediatric-focused nursing and home medical equipment company in Michigan.
"As we move forward, this acquisition will give us the chance to grow private duty nursing and home medical equipment services to patients across Michigan, and we look forward to that opportunity," said Chris Roussos, Epic president and CEO. "Our goal will continue to be providing the highest quality of care, and we're excited to build upon the strong patient base and exceptional reputation that Pediatric Special Care has already created."
Pediatric Special Care serves approximately 140 patients throughout the Detroit metropolitan area, including Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties, bringing Epic's total patient count to nearly 47,000. The acquisition increases Epic's service territory to 18 states and adds 58 employees to Epic's 17,000 team members.
The founders of Pediatric Special Care—husband and wife team Karen and Harry McKinney—plan to retire from the business.
"It was important to us to make sure our team and patients were in good hands, and we found the ideal match in Epic," said Karen McKinney.
Going forward, the private duty nursing portion of Pediatric Special Care's business—which makes up approximately 60 percent of the company's services—will be rebranded to Epic Health Services. The remaining home medical equipment segment, which includes in-home ventilation, oxygen, enteral nutrition supplies and apnea monitors, will be rebranded to Epic Medical Solutions, a division of Epic Health Services.
"Epic will continue to deliver on our mission to provide the best and most comprehensive continuum of care to pediatric patients, and we're thrilled that Pediatric Special Care is a part of that," Roussos said.
