ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released its national analysis of the 2009 Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). The chemical distribution industry had the third lowest total releases of any reporting industry, behind only the apparel and leather industries, both of whom had far fewer reporting facilities. Further, NACD member's average release was 47.6% lower than non-NACD members.

In 2009, all reporting facilities released 12 percent less toxic chemicals than in 2008. The chemical distribution industry (NAICS Code 4246 – Chemical Wholesalers) released 22 percent less than 2008 emissions. In 2009, 452 facilities classified under the 4246 NAICS Code reported their releases, including 282 NACD member facilities and 170 non-NACD member facilities. The chemical distribution industry had the lowest average emissions per facility of any reporting industry by far, with an average of 2852 pounds per facility. When narrowed to only NACD members, the average release per facility was only 2124 pounds, which is 47.6% lower than non-members' average release per facility.
