AMARILLO, Texas, and PAMPA, Texas, and GROOM, Texas, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- E.ON today dedicated its Colbeck's Corner Wind Farm, the company's 20th project since 2006 and 15th wind farm in Texas. The 200 MW project is particularly close to E.ON personnel's hearts because it is named in honor of Doug Colbeck, a long-time developer at E.ON who passed away in 2013 after a battle with Leukemia. Doug's family joined E.ON North American Chairman Patrick Woodson to honor Colbeck's memory at today's ceremony.
"Today's dedication is more than just the opening of a wind farm – it is a testament to the man, father, husband, and colleague Doug Colbeck was," said Patrick Woodson, Chairman of E.ON North America. "Doug was an integral part of E.ON and, in addition to bringing several of our projects online, mentored a number of young developers who continue his legacy today. It is truly an honor to have Doug's family join us today to dedicate this wind farm in his memory."
In addition to dedicating Colbeck's Corner Wind Farm, E.ON today made donations in Doug's memory to four local groups, the White Deer Fire Department, the Panhandle Youth Baseball – High Plains Affiliate, the Groom Summer Program, and the Amarillo Children's Home.
"Doug was dedicated to improving the environment so that his family could live in a better world," said Paul Bowman, Vice President of Development at E.ON. "We hope these donations help strengthen the local community and build a better world, just as Doug did every day through his work. Doug was a wonderful friend and an incredible colleague, and we hope this wind farm and the community activities made possible by this investment will help Doug's memory and legacy of doing good in the world live on."
Local and county officials also were present at the ceremony, including Gray County Judge Richard Peet, Carson County Judge Dan Looten, Groom ISD Superintendent Jay Lamb, and several Gray and Carson County Commissioners. Representatives of U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry and Texas State Senator Kel Seliger also attended the ceremony.
Colbeck's Corner is expected to generate $34 million in tax revenue for local communities, and support 14 permanent jobs, in addition to the jobs and investment generated in the area during the project's construction.
