EOD Warrior Foundation Presents the Inaugural Stacy Strong 5K Run/Walk
Event honors local resident, EODC Kenton Stacy, who was injured in Syria and recently honored with a new accessible home through the Gary Sinise Foundation
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Inaugural Stacy Strong 5K, hosted by the EOD Warrior Foundation, to be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 in NTC Park at Liberty Station. The event begins at 8 a.m., and includes a variety of family activities, a kid's fun run, music, a silent auction, and awards for top runners.
On Nov. 9, 2017, Senior Chief Petty Officer Kenton Stacy, a Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician, was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) during operations in Syria. The explosion has left Senior Chief Stacy as a quadriplegic who requires lifelong care. Kenton and his wife, Lindsey, have four children under ten years old.
"We are really excited to be out in the community, working with neighbors, friends, and organizations to support the Stacy family and all our EOD Warriors," said Nicole Motsek, Executive Director of the EOD Warrior Foundation.
Earlier this month the Stacy family found out they are the recipients of a specially adapted smart home through the Gary Sinise Foundation's R.I.S.E (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program. R.I.S.E. provides these heroes and their families with the resources to overcome their new life challenges. Since Gary's involvement in 2010, to the Gary Sinise Foundation's efforts today, 70 homes have been completed or are underway.
"We feel honored to be able to support Kenton, Lindsey, and their children. Kenton has given so much for our country and we know the San Diego community will rally around the Stacy family and welcome them with open arms," said Gary Sinise.
Funds raised from the Stacy Strong 5k are used to support the Stacy family, and other EOD families in need. The 5K-registration fee is $40. The Junior EOD Warrior 1K is $30, and virtual running options available. Wounded services members receive free registration. Register online at EOD Warrior Foundation. Sponsorship packages range from $100 to $5,000.
