DeVoren has a broad background in all areas of environmental law, including those that impact oil and gas exploration and production, storage, site development, waste and wastewater management, and air and water emissions. His areas of concentration also include corporate and securities; mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; real estate; natural resources; and business and contracts.
"Since much of his practice is driven at the federal level, Ivan's unique understanding of environmental law will be a critical asset to all of our clients, especially as the shale gas industry becomes more focused on production," said Rick Burleson, managing partner. "His background is impressive, extending from regulatory compliance to corporate transactions, and will add a new dynamic to the firm that you just can't find in a lot of places."
Kevin Colosimo, managing partner of Burleson's Pittsburgh office, added, "The addition of Ivan underscores our ongoing commitment to expanding the depth and breadth of our services as operations develop in the Marcellus and other shale plays throughout the United States. He is a highly accomplished, highly experienced attorney, and we're proud to have him on board."
DeVoren has counseled and represented industrial, commercial, and energy clients in connection with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulatory programs, including those related to natural gas exploration, production, processing and distribution, climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, and alternative and renewable energy.
In corporate transactions, he is well versed in environmental advice, evaluation, and strategic planning in acquisitions, mergers, securitizations, financings, joint ventures, and public offerings.
In addition to natural resource development, his background includes counseling many sectors of traditional industry and manufacturing, such as industrial, commercial, pharmaceutical, and chemical businesses. DeVoren has advised companies with facilities, properties, and operations throughout the United States and across the globe. He has assisted businesses in evaluating environmental, reporting, compliance, remediation, and restoration obligations, and has represented companies before regulatory agencies regarding violation notices, penalty assessments, and compliance agreements and schedules.
DeVoren earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State's Smeal College of Business and his law degree cum laude from the Temple University Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia.
