Entrepreneur "Top 5 Financing Trend," Slow Money, proves it means business
Slow Money unveils BEETCOIN, publishes rabble-rousing "Commons nth" pamphlet, announces National Gathering in Louisville, KY Nov. 10-12
BOULDER, Colo., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Slow Money, a small NGO making a big difference in just a few short years, today announced a new program, BEETCOIN, and a fifth National Gathering, this time in Louisville, KY, November 10-12, 2014. The Gathering offers inspiration and networking with conscious investors, entrepreneurs, and world-renowned speakers such as Vandana Shiva, Wendell Berry, Joel Salatin, and Amy Domini.
Slow Money offers a new direction for the economy, helping people put their money into saving farmland, supporting a new generation of small and mid-size organic farmers, and rebuilding local and regional food processing and distribution. Founder Woody Tasch, author of Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money: Investing As If Food, Farms and Fertility Mattered (published 2009,) also just published a "rabble-rousing" pamphlet, "Commons nth", available for download at http://slowmoney.org/images/commons_nth_pamphlet.pdf.
Through their National Gatherings, regional events and local activities, more than $38 million has been invested in over 350 U.S. small food enterprises. Twenty local networks and 13 investment clubs have formed, and thousands of people have attended their events.
"Slow Money rebuilds communities and soil by helping us re-envision how we invest our dollars," says Tasch. "Our Gatherings catalyze the flow of capital into the full range of small businesses that are vital to healthy local economies, and a more resilient food system."
Slow Money just launched a new campaign, BEETCOIN, through which anyone can donate as little as $25 to support entrepreneurs who present at the Louisville Gathering. The recipients of the first BEETCOIN funding will be chosen by popular vote of event attendees and BEETCOIN "holders".
"BEETCOIN is the opposite of Bitcoin," says Tasch. "It is patient, tangible, non-speculative, collaborative, and supportive of enterprises that build health in soil and community."
