Entrepreneur Magazine's 33rd Annual Franchise 500®
New Concepts Are Hot But Value Wins Again in the World's First, Best and Most Comprehensive Franchise Ranking
IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hitting newsstands December 20th, Entrepreneur magazine's 33rd annual Franchise 500® showcases this year's most successful players in the franchising world. Maintaining its number one ranking for the second consecutive year is Hampton Hotels, followed by Subway, 7-Eleven, Servpro and Days Inn, respectively.
Names dominating the list are serving up quick, affordable and simultaneously high-quality products and services in response to changing consumer demands. Overall, quick-service restaurants, personal care and retail franchise businesses are going strong—and even trending up.
"Value-oriented businesses tapping into the consumer mindset took the lead last year and are continuing to set the pace," says Amy Cosper, VP and editor in chief of Entrepreneur. "That said, new concepts are hot on their heels with innovative ideas in popular industries. In either case, there's good news all around in that we're seeing growth in unit numbers overall, which means more jobs and positive markers for our economy."
Despite the recession, the companies in the Franchise 500® added 13,725 units between 2010 and 2011, indicating a 16 percent improvement from the previous year's growth. Franchises also provided more than 9.1 million jobs and contributed $468 billion in GDP to the U.S. economy, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The rankings for all 500 companies are determined using an exclusive formula that takes into account objective and quantifiable factors. An independent CPA analyzes all financial data. The most important factors include financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system. All franchises are given a cumulative score, and the 500 franchises with the highest cumulative scores become the Franchise 500® in ranking order.
In addition to the ranking, Entrepreneur's annual Franchise 500® issue looks at rising and falling trends and profiles the top 10 companies. There's also insight into deciphering the franchise disclosure document, navigating the real estate market for site selection, social media engagement and more.
