Entravision Raises More Than $2 Million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals
7th Annual three-day Radiothon sets record and raises funds for 24 children's hospitals
SALT LAKE CITY and SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Miracle Network Hospitals®, a charity that raises funds for 170 children's hospitals, and Entravision Communications Corporation (NYSE: EVC) today announced that approximately $2.1 million was raised for 24 member hospitals during the seventh annual network-wide Radiothon. Sixty-nine cities countrywide benefitted from the Radiothon due to the increased reach of Entravision's online, mobile platforms and syndicated radio programming.
This year's three-day Radiothon launched on Thursday, August 21st, broadcasting from Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). The following day, popular morning show "El Levanton" on the Tricolor network traveled to Colorado to broadcast their Radiothon show from Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora on both Friday and Saturday. Carlos Alvarez of Los Angeles' SuperEstrella 107.1 FM took his Radiothon show to Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC) in Tustin, CA, while Tricolor's new mid-day show "Armida y La Flaka" traveled to Arizona to broadcast their third Radiothon day live from Phoenix Children's Hospital.
The record-setting Radiothon concluded on Saturday, August 23rd and the 2014 total surpassed last year's $1.5 million tally. The donations will be utilized by local children's hospitals to help kids in each of their communities. This year's Radiothon theme, "Un Million Para Los Ninos" (One Million for the Children), was far exceeded in donations by Entravision listeners on its leading Spanish-language radio stations, including the Jose, Super Estrella, El Gato, La Tricolor, La Nueva and Maria formats. The $2.1 million raised this year makes the event the most successful Spanish-language Radiothon to benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in 2014.
"Erazno y La Chokolata," a top performing radio program that airs on numerous Entravision formats as well as on syndicated stations, motivated its legion of fans to participate and donate to the cause along with the talented Alex "El Genio" Lucas, who has a syndication audience in 33 markets nationwide. Joining the all-star Radiothon lineup from the Jose format stations was certified nutritionist Luz Maria Briseno, host of a new midday show about living a healthier lifestyle.
"We are now in our seventh year of teaming with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and are thrilled to have broadcast the Radiothon," said Jeffery Liberman, Chief Operating Officer of Entravision. "This year's enormously successful collaboration enabled us to benefit more hospitals and children than ever before. The overwhelming response to this year's Radiothon is a testament to the vast reach of Entravision's national radio platform, as well as our continuously growing on-air talent and staff, who rallied the great force of our Spanish-language listeners."
"Once again, we are extremely proud of the great partnership we enjoy with the entire nationwide Entravision team on behalf of the children served by our member hospitals," said Joe Trevino, VP Hispanic Programs, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. "This year's Radiothon success demonstrates the personal dedication, creativity and commitment by everyone involved to engage Entravision listeners to participate with the Radiothon. It was truly a team effort," added Trevino.
The Radiothon program has been an integral part of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' fundraising efforts since 1997. Today, more than 300 stations participate in Radiothons annually, raising approximately $50 million each year for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
