Enthought, Inc. Releases EPD 6.0 for Scientific Computing With Python 2.6
AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Enthought Python Distribution bundles the Python programming language with over 75 additional libraries to support sophisticated analysis and visualization in scientific applications. EPD 6.0 is based on Python 2.6, notable not only for its numerous improvements and bug fixes, but also for the inclusion of functions and packages especially developed to facilitate a smooth transition to Python 3.0.

EPD 6.0 contains several notable upgrades and additions to its package index. NumPy, the core library on which SciPy depends for array manipulation, has been updated to NumPy 1.4, providing significantly (20-30%) faster import time.
EPD now also includes the PiCloud's cloud library. PiCloud has EPD 6.0 installed on its auto-scaling high-performance cluster where users can run their code remotely. This service, ideal for web applications, enables cloud computing to be performed as easily as local code processing.
The Enthought Python Distribution helps make scientific computing with Python a viable option for enterprise users. One-click installation across multiple platforms has always been seen as a major advantage of EPD, especially to clients who need to deploy identical computing environments for users throughout their organization. EPD 6.0 extends this capability with new 64-bit versions for Windows and OSX. As a result, subscribers can now use EPD 32-bit or 64-bit on Windows, OSX, Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Red Hat, and Solaris.
EPD is available to commercial users at four subscription levels ranging from individual to enterprise licenses. Academics may use 32-bit EPD free of cost or purchase a license for 64-bit EPD at half-price. Subscriptions and trial downloads are available at www.enthought.com.
