ST. LOUIS, Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Progressive® Insurance came together last week with the National Auto Body Council (NABC), and many others in the collision industry to support military members and their families as part of the fourth annual Keys to Progress® program. This year's initiative provided more than 100 newly refurbished vehicles to deserving military members and their families in celebration of Veterans Day.
The Keys to Progress vehicle giveaways, spearheaded by Progressive, took place at 63 locations across the country, including Progressive's Service Centers. For the fourth consecutive year, Enterprise Rent-A-Car provided six months of automobile insurance for each donated vehicle, and helped transport families to the giveaway events as needed.
Progressive worked in collaboration with local NABC member collision repair centers to recycle and donate vehicles involved or recovered in a claim. The vehicles were fully restored as an extension of the NABC's Recycled Rides program, a collaborative effort by the collision industry to repair and donate vehicles to those in need. Enterprise is a longstanding partner of NABC and supports its Recycled Rides program. NABC donates vehicles to provide much needed transportation for individuals and service organizations in local communities throughout the country. Recycled Rides has been donating vehicles to deserving individuals and nonprofit organizations since its inception in 2007.
"Our founder Jack Taylor, a Navy veteran, instilled in our company and its employees the importance of supporting the men, women and their families who serve our country," said Mary Mahoney, vice president, insurance replacement division for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. "The Keys to Progress program helps us to do that and also reinforces our commitment to strengthening the local communities where we operate."
In local communities throughout the U.S., Enterprise employees participated in events and hosted special fundraisers in advance of the giveaways to provide extra donations to the Keys to Progress recipients. For example, Enterprise and Progressive employees in Pittsburgh held a car wash and hosted an end-of-summer barbeque, which raised $1,600 to fund the donation of two GPS units.
In addition to contributions from Enterprise, Progressive and NABC, the Keys to Progress program featured support from multiple organizations with a shared value in the military. The recipients were selected by local VFW chapters and other veteran organizations with support from Veracity Research Co. Investigations (VRC), Copart, Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc. and 1-800-Charity Cars. Vehicle titling and registration processing was facilitated by 1-800 Charity Cars.
Military Commitment
Enterprise's commitment to the military goes back nearly six decades. The company is named after the USS Enterprise, one of the aircraft carriers on which Jack Taylor served as a U.S. Navy pilot during World War II. It is widely recognized as the most decorated warship in U.S. military history.
Enterprise also has been recognized for its ongoing support of veterans and reservists, including designations as a Military Friendly Employer from the publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine for the past four years, Top Veteran-Friendly Company by U.S. Veterans Magazine, "Best for Vets: Employers" by the Military Times publishing organization and Most Valuable Employer for Military by CivilianJobs.com. Today, military veterans and members of the guard and reserves comprise nearly 13 percent of the company's total U.S. workforce. In fact, Enterprise is one of more than 230 companies associated with the Veterans Jobs Mission, which brings together companies committed to hiring U.S. military veterans and military spouses. Since joining the coalition in 2012, Enterprise has added nearly 8,000 military veterans to its staff.
In addition, just last month Enterprise was inducted into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP). The Department of Defense program connects military spouses with partner employers committed to recruiting, hiring, promoting and retaining military spouses. Earlier this year, Enterprise also was recognized as the No. 7 Military Friendly Spouse Employer from the publishers of G.I. Jobs magazine. Enterprise employs more than 1,100 military spouses.
