LONDON, December 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Enterprise Holdings has today announced that following the outcome of arbitration between itself and Europcar it has terminated the Master License Agreement (MLA) that Europcar held to operate the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands in Europe.

The decision to conclude the MLA means that, with immediate effect, Europcar will no longer be able to operate the National and Alamo brands in EMEA. It is expected, however, that existing National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car reservations in Europe will be honoured by Europcar.
The termination of the agreement comes at a time when Enterprise Holdings is developing its own strong network across EMEA to support the rental needs of domestic and international leisure and business travellers. The return of the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands to Enterprise Holdings means that it is now able to develop a clear global strategy to serve the needs of specific rental customers.
Jim Burrell, Enterprise Holdings' senior vice president, European operations, said: "Having control over the Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands means that we can now decide how best to realign them in order to bring increased choice to our customers."
"Over the years, Enterprise Holdings in North America has developed three distinct brands to meet the needs of leisure, business and replacement customers. Today we can begin to explore how we can utilise National and Alamo to better serve the needs of our customers across EMEA and provide them with greater consistency of service," added Burrell.
Enterprise Holdings has owned and operated the Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands in North America since its acquisition of Vanguard in 2007. The termination of the agreement with Europcar concludes a process that started in August 2013, when the two companies ended their strategic alliance under which Europcar managed inbound business for National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car throughout much of Europe.
