Enterprise Center Announces Winter Workshop Line-Up
From basics to hot topics, workshops reflect local business trends
SALEM, Mass., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- What's happening in the North of Boston economy? The Enterprise Center at Salem State University's new roster of winter workshops is a surprisingly good indicator. Beginning on January 11th with Entrepreneurship: Ready, Set, Launch, the workshop topics are indicative of the interesting types and the many small businesses that are an essential part of the North Shore economy.
If you've noticed the many new retail shops in Salem and other North Shore communities -- maybe thought of opening your own store -- you'll appreciate the special series of workshops focused on issues specific to retailers. A new workshop on farming -- yes, farming -- is right in line with growing interest in locally produced food, as the popularity of farmers markets and food cooperatives across the North Shore attests. Many businesses are born during tough economic times; the current recession is no exception, especially in Essex County, where well over 85 percent of all businesses are proprietors or "solopreneurs," people who work alone or who have fewer than five employees.
Enterprise Center workshops have something for everyone. They range from business basics for would-be entrepreneurs to topics of interest to established business owners, such as doing business outside of Massachusetts or how to generate more referrals. There are workshops addressing the needs of non-profit managers and an entire month (March) dedicated to high-tech topics, such as incorporating social media into ones' marketing mix. Most sessions generally run from 8:30 to 10:30 on weekday mornings and are held at the Enterprise Center. They are open to anyone, many are co-sponsored by the Small Business Development Center, and most are completely free. Registration and the complete winter schedule are online at the Enterprise Center's website, www.EnterpriseCtr.org.
The Enterprise Center at Salem State University is the "go to" place for business owners at every stage of business development, providing business owners with the knowledge and skills to grow profits and succeed and serving as the voice of the small business community through advocacy and action. The Enterprise Center is located at 121 Loring Avenue, Salem, MA 01970. Phone 978-542-7528, www.EnterpriseCtr.org.
