ST. LOUIS, June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterprise Holdings announced today that it has purchased the AllCar Rent-a-Car and Carpingo brands from Citiwide Auto Leasing Inc. Both AllCar Rent-a-Car, a neighborhood car rental provider, and Carpingo, a car sharing service, operate primarily in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.
The largest car rental company in the world, Enterprise Holdings is owned and operated by the Taylor family of St. Louis. "As a family-owned company, we sought a business partner that shared our values," said Gil Cygler, President of Citiwide Auto Leasing Inc. "We respect Enterprise's commitment to customer service and enhancing the communities in which it operates. I know our customers will be in good hands."
Founded in 1979, AllCar began when Cygler's father Samuel began renting cars to customers who needed a temporary vehicle while their own was being fixed at his car repair and service station. After college, Cygler joined his father's business and not only grew the AllCar brand, but also became an industry veteran who has played a fundamental role in shaping the car rental business, both in New York and nationwide. Cygler also serves on the Board of Directors of the American Car Rental Association (ACRA), which advocates for sensible legislation impacting the car rental industry and its customers.
Enterprise Holdings owns and operates the award-winning Enterprise Rent-A-Car brand. In fact, through its regional subsidiaries, the company operates more than 5,500 fully staffed Enterprise Rent-A-Car neighborhood offices from coast to coast, 50 percent more than its nearest U.S. competitor. These affordable and accessible offices – all located within 15 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population – provide transportation options to a wide variety of consumers, including those who rely on mass transit during the week in large urban markets, as well as those who simply cannot afford to purchase or maintain a vehicle on their own.
"We're confident that our valued customers will be cared for with the same professional and personal service we have delivered for more than 30 years," Cygler stressed.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Former AllCar and Carpingo customers will now experience Enterprise's award-winning customer service and convenient neighborhood network.
As part of the acquisition, all eight AllCar Brooklyn branch offices will discontinue operations and customers will be served by nearby Enterprise Rent-A-Car locations.
Carpingo members will be transitioned to the Enterprise CarShare program during the summer, and will have access to Enterprise car-sharing service in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and parts of New Jersey.
Neighborhood Network
In New York City, Enterprise operates more than 60 branch locations, and continues to expand its fleet and incorporate low-mileage vehicles throughout its local network, including Brooklyn. "Both AllCar and Enterprise have been an integral part of the Brooklyn community for many years," said Andy Church, President and General Manager of Enterprise Holdings' New York area operations. "We're proud that Gil has selected us to carry on his legacy. And we'll be sure that the transition for AllCar and Carpingo customers is seamless and convenient."
Select full- and part-time AllCar employees will be retained, including Cygler, who will help oversee the transition. Other AllCar employees who are interested in available positions with Enterprise Rent-A-Car are encouraged to apply at the company's online career site.
Enterprise has been delivering transportation alternatives right where people live and work since 1957. Forty years later, Enterprise Rent-A-Car trademarked the term Virtual Car®, after recognizing the strength and energy of local service, regardless if it is for an hour, a day, a week or longer. This intuitive neighborhood business model now features a wide variety of programs, including car rental, car leasing, vanpooling and car sharing.
In addition, the Enterprise network is uniquely positioned to quickly respond whenever disaster strikes. For instance, even before Hurricane Sandy made landfall in 2012, Enterprise started responding to requests for vehicles from the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), local utilities and other government agencies. The National League of Cities and New York Gov. Cuomo's office have noted Enterprise's leadership in disaster recovery efforts.
