ENR New York Presents Higher Education Construction Conference, Thursday, October 16, 2014
NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- During the first five months of 2014, more than $643 million in public and private higher education development projects were initiated in New York City – an 11 percent increase from last year. To further investigate developments in this important market, McGraw Hill Construction's ENR New York (http://newyork.construction.com/) will host its Higher Education Construction Conference, an important industry-wide forum featuring regional construction and development contract opportunities for owners, contractors, architects, engineers, unions and other industry service providers interested in working on higher education development projects. The event will be held October 16, 2014 at McGraw Hill Headquarters, 1221 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan.
During the event, 150+ executives will hear updates on the capital programs of the region's major higher education institutions. Panelists from organizations including New York University, CUNY, Faithful+Gould, Fordham University, Structure Tone, and Tishman Construction will discuss new design trends such as multi-use buildings and shared spaces designed to promote collaborative, interdisciplinary learning, as well as strategies for extending capital budgets and alternative financing options. The event also features New York Building Congress' presentation of its new NYC-EDU Report, which examines recent, ongoing and planned construction activity by higher education institutions in New York City, and the impact of that activity on the City's economy. Attendees will receive a free copy of the report.
The event features a keynote address by Lia Gartner, Vice President for Design, Construction and Facilities Management, The New School. Gartner will discuss the institution's new state-of-the-art University Center, conceptualized as a center of creativity, innovation and social engagement. She will offer her insights into innovative design concepts and building technologies used in the building, which opened in January 2014 and has been described as "a celebration of the cosmopolitan city" by the New York Times.
