Enlightened, Inc. in Public and Private Sector Partnership Aimed at Providing Internships to 100 DC Youths.
WASHINGTON, April 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Enlightened, Inc. ("Enlightened"), a leading provider of Information Technology (IT) consulting services, is pleased to support DC Mayor Muriel Bowser's internship program which was announced today at the DC Chamber of Commerce's "2015 Economic Policy Forum: Connecting the Capital".
Private sector partners Enlightened, Inc., the DC Chamber of Commerce and the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation have partnered with public sector partners including the Executive Office of the Mayor, Department of Employment Services (DOES), and the DC Public Schools (DCPS) to support the Mayor's initiative.
Mayor Bowser issued The Audacity Of Hope Book Challenge to 100 young men of color who were students in several public and public charter high schools throughout the District. In accepting the Challenge, these young men agreed to read President Barack Obama's book, The Audacity of Hope, during their winter break, and to return with five recommendations of programs, policies and other activities that the Mayor could implement in her administration to ensure that more young men of color in DC achieve success. The internship program is a public-private partnership created in response to recommendations of the young men that took part in the The Audacity of Hope Book Challenge.
"In order to create effective pathways to the middle class, we need to make sure that the next generations of Washingtonians have the tools they need to live, work, and thrive in the District of Columbia," said Mayor Bowser. "This program will help give young men the experience they need to succeed in the workplace."
The purpose of the internship program is to ensure that DC youths have a greater connection to jobs and career pathways. In 2015, 100 participants will be placed in one-year internship that will serve to enhance their academic achievement by exposing them to careers in several area high-growth industries.
Collectively, the public and private sector partners will provide the program infrastructure, work sites, training, and financial resources and ongoing evaluation of the program.
"The fundamental goal of this program is to guide, mentor and prepare youths for a bright and successful future," said Antwanye Ford, President & CEO of Enlightened. "We are committed to supporting our youth and the Mayor's initiative and hope to see the program expand to every city in the nation."
