Engineering Employment Posts Best Two Months In A Year; IT Employment Growth Rate Holds Steady
ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.2 percent sequentially last month to 5,284,300, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 3.8% since March 2016 adding 194,600 IT workers.
Engineering employment increased by 0.1 percent sequentially to 2,555,400. On a year-over-year basis, growth in engineering employment increased by 1.1% since March 2016 or 28,000 engineering workers.
"Engineering job growth posted its two best months in over a year. While still underperforming the overall workforce, the year-over-year rate of growth exceeded one percent for the first time in two years," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While two months does not make a trend, I am encouraged by the improvement in engineering after an extended period of anemic job growth," added Roberts.
