EnergyBiz Selects ComEd's Anne Pramaggiore CEO of the Year
Award for Top Utility Leader Presented at Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
CHICAGO, March 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ComEd President and CEO Anne Pramaggiore was named Utility Industry CEO of the Year by Energy Central, publisher of EnergyBiz magazine, at a gathering this week in Washington, D.C.
Martin Rosenberg, editor-in-chief of the magazine, said Pramaggiore was selected, among other reasons, based on the company's success in securing passage of the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act or "Smart Grid" bill. It's a 10-year investment program under which ComEd is transforming the electric system in northern Illinois by modernizing the grid, overhauling infrastructure and deploying 4 million digital smarter meters that give customers more control over their energy consumption and costs.
"ComEd is recognized throughout the industry for its successful pursuit of a new regulatory model that is enabling the utility to make the long-term investments needed to strengthen and modernize one of the largest utility systems in the country," said Rosenberg. "We admire the hands-on, personal role that Anne has played in this major initiative. We're also impressed by the company's enhanced capabilities and effectiveness in responding to severe weather conditions following the severe storms that hit the Chicago area in 2011. Under Anne's leadership, ComEd is well positioned to succeed now and in the future by combining business and technology innovation and insight with a genuine commitment to improving the customer experience."
Energy Central also named Pepco Holdings, Inc., Washington, D.C., the Energy Company of the Year for 2013, and it presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael G. Morris, former president and CEO of American Electric Power, Columbus, Ohio.
The event also featured a panel discussion where utility executives discussed a broad range of challenges and priorities, focusing in particular on electric grid security and efforts to protect against cyber-attacks and improving responses to severe weather events.
Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC), the nation's leading competitive energy provider, with approximately 6.6 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
