ENERGY STAR(R) Certifies 106 Buildings Managed by Jones Lang LaSalle
CHICAGO, March 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jones Lang LaSalle manages 106 U.S. commercial properties that currently maintain an ENERGY STAR® label, signifying that these buildings perform in the top 25 percent of buildings nationwide compared to similar buildings. This represents a 25 percent year-over-year increase in the number of ENERGY STAR labeled buildings managed by Jones Lang LaSalle.
The 106 properties totaling 43.7 million square feet that maintain ENERGY STAR certification are located in 19 states and the District of Columbia. The list includes the tallest building in the country with an ENERGY STAR label, the Aon Center in Chicago, as well as many corporate owner-occupied properties, multi-tenant office buildings and even bank branches.
Jones Lang LaSalle's announcement coincides with the annual announcement by the Environmental Protection Agency, which administers the ENERGY STAR program, of the total number of labeled buildings. The EPA noted that nearly 9,000 buildings across America earned the ENERGY STAR as of the end of 2009, and also announced the top five cities with the greatest number of labeled buildings: Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Denver and Chicago.
"As building owners and corporate occupiers increasingly focus on reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager is the respected standard for benchmarking energy performance," said Gary Graham, head of energy services at Jones Lang LaSalle. "We continually seek ways to make the properties we manage more energy-efficient, and our partnership with ENERGY STAR is key to our ability to measure performance and identify strategies for improvement."
"Partnering with ENERGY STAR helped us save more than $100 million in energy costs and reduce greenhouses gases by 465,000 tons on behalf of clients in 2009," said Peter Belisle, President of Energy and Sustainability Services at Jones Lang LaSalle. "As states and cities increasingly require commercial buildings to measure and disclose energy performance data, ENERGY STAR is becoming more important than ever to our clients and to us."
Jones Lang LaSalle has been an ENERGY STAR Partner for more than a decade and has been named Partner of the Year twice, most recently in 2010. Partner of the Year designees are selected from more than 17,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. In 2009, Jones Lang LaSalle announced it had enrolled 100 percent of its U.S. investor-owned and retail mall properties representing over 122 million square feet of property in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
The ENERGY STAR program is an initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to assist citizens and businesses to save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. It was launched by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary labeling program designed to identify and promote energy-efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 1999, the EPA extended the ENERGY STAR program to residential, office and commercial buildings that demonstrate a high degree of energy efficiency.
