The purpose of the program is to reduce the energy costs of nonprofits so they can allocate more of their funding for programs. In addition to Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC), the program is funded by the City and County of Denver and utility companies Atmos Energy, Source Gas and Xcel Energy. Grant recipients must have facilities in areas served by those utilities.
Since NEEP was launched in 2007, 152 facilities have been weatherized with a total of more than $7.8 million in energy efficiency measures. Most organizations receive between $10,000 and $120,000 in efficiency upgrades such as new energy efficiency appliances, heating and cooling systems, windows, lighting upgrades and insulation. Past recipients include Denver Rescue Mission, Catholic Charities, Food Bank of the Rockies, Open Door Ministries, and Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.
For more information and to apply for a grant, go to www.EnergyOutreach.org/neep.asp or contact Hilary Taylor, NEEP Program Manager, at 303-226-5060 or [email protected] . Applications must be received by June 15 at 5 p.m and the application typically takes one to two hours to complete.
