Energy Outreach Colorado Bill Assistance Available Year-Round
DENVER, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Limited-income Coloradans struggling to pay home energy bills can apply to Energy Outreach Colorado for energy bill payment assistance, especially now that the federally-funded Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) has stopped accepting applications until next November.
Energy assistance provided relief when a rare form of cancer impacted 58-year-old Manuel's ability to provide for his family. After working for nearly 25 years in the insurance industry and raising four children, he and his wife of 43 years finally purchased their own home. Then Manuel was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma – a type of skin cancer – surprisingly in his right eye.
The resulting five surgeries and chemotherapy treatments made it impossible for him to work – just as their adjustable-rate mortgage ballooned.
"I got into trouble with paycheck loans trying to juggle everything," he said about the year it took for him to be approved for disability benefits. "I felt bad that I wasn't out there working and taking care of my family."
Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) is a statewide nonprofit that provides energy bill payment assistance year-round through 100 partner organizations to help Coloradans like Manuel. To apply for assistance, or to make a tax-deductible donation, please go to EnergyOutreach.org or call toll free 1-866-HEAT-HELP (1-866-432-8435).
