Energy Efficiency Project to Save City of Victoria $750,000 in Energy Costs
VICTORIA, Texas, May 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevron Energy Solutions, a unit of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX), and the City of Victoria announced today the completion of an energy efficiency project that is expected to save the city more than $750,000 over the life of the project.
The project is expected to reduce the city's energy use by nearly 1 million kilowatt hours each year over the next ten to fifteen years. The City replaced more than $600,000 in older light bulbs and electronic equipment with modern, energy-efficient models. The energy efficiency improvements included lighting upgrades at the Victoria Public Library, City Hall, four fire stations, traffic signals, exit signs and lamps at city buildings resulting in high quality lighting that uses less energy. Other improvements included an energy management system, thermostats and controls/motion sensors at the Victoria Public Library.
"The City of Victoria is pleased to take the first step to improve our energy efficiency while also realizing energy savings and improving more than ten city buildings and 85 intersections across the City," said Victoria City Manager Charmelle Garrett. "Our partnership with Chevron Energy Solutions has made us a greener city and saved our taxpayers money."
Chevron Energy Solutions designed and implemented the energy efficiency improvements and guarantees the annual energy savings. Chevron worked with the city to apply for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants. The City did not spend any funds to achieve these savings. All of the energy efficiency improvements and replacements were paid by federal energy efficiency grants.
"The City of Victoria is a great example of how a few energy efficiency improvements can go a long way to achieve energy savings and improve safety," said Jim Davis, President of Chevron Energy Solutions. "Other cities can learn from the City of Victoria how energy efficiency improvements can result in cost savings and other benefits."
