SAN DIEGO, Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- EMR Direct, a leading developer of software for the secure exchange of protected health information over the Internet and provider of HISP and identity services, has received full re-accreditation through the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP). DirectTrust/EHNAC DTAAP accreditation, endorsed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), is the industry-accepted stamp of approval for objective review of Direct service providers. EMR Direct's practices were audited against over two hundred technical, physical, and operational criteria and found to be fully in compliance with HIPAA/HITECH, the Direct Project standards, and the DirectTrust Security and Trust framework.

EMR Direct's phiMail integration tools make it easy for vendors to add Direct messaging to their products, enabling broad interoperability by solving the historically expensive problem of securely transferring information between different vendors and healthcare systems. One in three vendors certified for Direct-related criteria under the current ONC 2014 Edition requirements has already integrated the phiMail platform into their products to provide the Direct functionality needed for Meaningful Use. EMR Direct's HISP services can also be connected to XD-enabled EHRs.
EMR Direct received its initial accreditation during the first year of the DTAAP program and was one of two HISPs included in the launch of the DirectTrust Accredited Network in 2014. Today, this network reaches over 1 million healthcare endpoints across the nation. "We're pleased that our continued accreditation translates to even broader interoperability for our customers," said Luis C. Maas III, MD, PhD, CTO of EMR Direct. Dr. Maas also serves as Co-Chair of the DirectTrust Security and Trust Compliance Workgroup.
"EMR Direct is a leader and innovator in the field of health information exchange," said David C. Kibbe, MD, President and CEO of DirectTrust. "Their valuable contributions as a DirectTrust member to the development of our security and trust framework and their exceptional focus on interoperability have helped us to build a robust and successful exchange network that benefits patients and providers alike. Their re-accreditation to the rigorous requirements of all three DTAAP programs is an affirmation of their ongoing commitment to privacy and security."
The recently finalized ONC 2015 Edition Health IT certification criteria introduce expanded requirements relating to Direct and other protocols. "We're ready for the rollout of the new criteria later this year," says Julie Maas, CEO of EMR Direct. "Building on the success of our phiMail easy integration API for Direct, our new phiQuery platform will provide similar ease of integration for Application Access requirements." In addition to longstanding support for multi-factor authentication, XD HISP connections, Delivery Notification, trust policies tailored to customer business needs, and requirements for exchange with Federal agencies such as separate signing and encryption certificates, EMR Direct now offers nationwide Directory services, the new phiQuery™ platform for Application Access, and an enhanced remote registration platform.
